Introduction

The Department of Veterinary Medicine Offers both postgraduate clinical training through internships and residencies, and graduate research degrees through MPhil, PhD and clinical research as a VetMD.  [Please note that in the UK clinical training to practice veterinary medicine at the non-specialist level is not referred to as graduate training. If you wish to follow a general clinical veterinary course after your first degree, please follow the link here.]

The MPhil and PhD degrees are open to students with an Honours Degree (BSc, BA or equivalent) in a suitable subject at upper second class standard or better, as well as to all graduates in Veterinary Medicine or in Medicine. The VetMB is only open to those with a Cambridge VetMB degree and professional experience, or those with a degree in Veterinary Medicine working within the Cambridge Veterinary School.

and is one of the few Departments in the UK that offers research that really does stretch from molecule to whole organism: and not only from bench to bedside or to buyer, but also back from farmyard to fork.

Full-time and part-time routes are available for Masters and PhD qualifications.  The department  offers in-house research skills training and a broad range of IT, bioinformatics, personal development and other training opportunities through the Graduate School of Life Sciences and University.   Candidates will have many opportunities to practise their presentation skills at regular departmental events - seminars, journal clubs and poster sessions.  The department houses a wide range of skilled staff, facilities and equipment, and has a wide clinical patient group to support students' research.  It also has strong ties with world class groups elsewhere in the University and its surrounding Research Institutes.  All graduate students have opportunities for a broad and varied social life through College membership.
