General considerations - The Supervisor's role

This is primarily a teaching one.  Some supervisors accept PhD students mainly in the hope of increasing their own research productivity.  PhD students undoubtedly do have the potential to increase research productivity, yet a PhD (or an MPhil) is largely about training.  Before committing yourself to take on a research student, you must ensure that you have the time to devote to teaching that student, and that the resources exist in your group to give that student an adequate training and research environment.

PIs - PhD projects please.

"PhD projects please:
We will be placing PhD Project advertisements on ‘FindAPhD.com’ during the next few weeks.  If you are considering taking a student, could you please supply a project title, 5 key words and a short description of the project (300 words or less).  Please include the skills that will be gained by the student.  Don’t worry if the project doesn’t yet have funding as we will be looking into their funding situation before inviting candidates to interview.

A prompt email response to Fiona Roby would be very much appreciated."
