Pathology Laboratory

The Pathology Laboratory provides routine and specialised histopathological services for the Department and for Veterinary Surgeons in general practice for both companion and farm animals. In addition the laboratory supports researchers in Pathology within the Department. Our aim is to provide high quality diagnostic results, and to support and develop excellent research. The staff have many years experience in Veterinary Pathology and the laboratory provides facilities for post mortem examination of all animal species. We have considerable experience and expertise in the diagnosis of infectious, degenerative and proliferative diseases (non-neoplastic and neoplastic processes). Routine examination involves histological analysis of fixed tissues, but we also have a wide panel of immunohistochemical markers for further investigations, particularly in companion animal oncology. Results are faxed or mailed as soon as completed.

A three year Pathology Senior Clinical Training Scholar Programme is available that provides preparation for the examinations for membership of the Royal College of Pathologists and examination for diplomate status of the European College of Veterinary Pathology.

For referring veterinary surgeons: If you wish to submit surgical specimens for histopathological analysis, or to refer a case for post mortem examination, please do not hesitate to contact one of our team of pathologists via the Queens Veterinary School Hospital reception.
