Introduction

The Pauline Brown Clinical Skills Centre

Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Staffed Monday to Friday 08:45 to 17:15

Clinical skills are taught in Years 1, 4, 5 and 6.  After this initial introduction to a skill, the centre is open to you for further skills rehearsal. This means it is open to all vet students.

Small animal handling skills can be practiced in the comfort of the Pauline Brown Clinical Skills Centre on models and by arrangement on cats and dogs.

Large animal handling skills can be practiced at Merton Hall Farm in a realistic situation and with access to cows and horses once you have perfected techniques on models.

Most clinical skills are taught in 4th year, which equips you with the techniques required for clinical EMS.

More complex techniques are acquired in 5th year.  For example, equine rectal examination as an aid to colic diagnosis and orthopedic instrument use.

The Centre can then help in 6th year as an area to practice skills prior to clinical rotations.
