Biography

Following a BSc in Natural Sciences and an MSc in Environmental Conservation at the Universita’ degli Studi of Milan (Italy) I went on to develop a deep interest in marine biology and marine conservation.

In 2010, I started working as a marine biologist in the Maldives, an experience that brought me closer to marine life and developed my passion for the underwater world.

Following my first encounters with the Maldivian manta rays, their complex and poorly understood behaviour drove my desire to learn more about these majestic animals and work to aid in their conservation. From 2013 to 2017 I worked as project leader of the Maldivian Manta Ray Project and I have recently taken up the role of global database manager.

My interest in the reproductive ecology, physiology and behaviour of manta rays led me to commence a PhD at the Department of Veterinary Medicine in Cambridge University.

Research

I am particularly interested in the reproductive ecology, physiology and behaviour of mobulid rays and the development of new research methodologies to study these in wild populations of marine megafauna.
