What a truly outstanding and inspiring week it’s been for the Department of Veterinary Medicine as part of the Cambridge Festival 2026!
Across the past week, we were proud to welcome over 750 people to our Cambridge Festival events - making our 2026 programme of events, the Vet School’s most successful festival season to date.
Our Vet School Open Day saw more than 500 visitors join us on Saturday, filling the Department with energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm. From hands-on science activities to meeting our vets and students, it was fantastic to see so many families and future veterinary professionals engaging with the work we do.
Alongside this, we were delighted to host our schools’ workshops programme, welcoming over 180 pupils from across the country on Tuesday and Thursday. Across two packed days - with dedicated sessions for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 students - pupils took part in a wide range of interactive and hands-on workshops held across our site, from putting 'Scrubs on' to learning about how to bandage a horse, and even how to x-ray a snake! All led by our brilliant staff and super enthusiastic veterinary students - these sessions gave young people a real insight into veterinary science in action, and it was a pleasure to see the site come alive with such excitement (and yes, a little extra noise and giggling - it's not often we have young 'humans' on site!).
The week also included our sold-out 'Live Podcast Event' - The Animal Heartbeat Live, which brought together over 70 attendees for a fascinating and thought-provoking discussion on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, highlighting the powerful connections between human and veterinary medicine. From inspiring the next generation through schools outreach, to opening our doors to the public, and hosting expert-led discussions - this week has truly showcased the breadth and impact of our community.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and helped deliver these events. We’re incredibly proud to share our work with so many people - and we’re already looking forward to an even bigger and better Cambridge Festival next year.
