Student applications

The Graduate Office operates as a centre for receiving and distributing student applications, where they are given a preliminary sort, prior to some being passed to appropriate potential supervisors electronically.

If you receive enquiries directly from students, please forward details to Meg Staff (, together with a note saying whether you intend to pursue this particular applicant.  If not, the Office can then redistribute the details to other potential supervisors.

Completed official University application forms are routed through the Graduate Office to get the necessary departmental signatures before being sent to the Degree Committee and the Board of Graduate Studies.

PIs - PhD projects please.

"PhD projects please:
We will be placing PhD Project advertisements on ‘’ during the next few weeks.  If you are considering taking a student, could you please supply a project title, 5 key words and a short description of the project (300 words or less).  Please include the skills that will be gained by the student.  Don’t worry if the project doesn’t yet have funding as we will be looking into their funding situation before inviting candidates to interview.
A prompt email response to Fiona Roby would be very much appreciated."
