Mphil student assessment and examination

There is no formal form of MPhil progress assessment, but supervisors should ask MPhil students to write a short literature review and/or report soon after the start of their second term, in order to check on their progress.  Again, as with the second-year assessments of PhD students, it is essential that these procedures take as little time as possible for both student and staff involved.

Final examination of MPhil students.

MPhil students are asked to submit their dissertation after ten months to allow time for examination prior to the end of the year for those foreign students who have only one year’s funding.  The Degree Committee has expressed a willingness to consider short extensions to allow handing-in up to one year, but this should not be taken to be the regular position.

PIs - PhD projects please.

"PhD projects please:
We will be placing PhD Project advertisements on ‘’ during the next few weeks.  If you are considering taking a student, could you please supply a project title, 5 key words and a short description of the project (300 words or less).  Please include the skills that will be gained by the student.  Don’t worry if the project doesn’t yet have funding as we will be looking into their funding situation before inviting candidates to interview.
A prompt email response to Fiona Roby would be very much appreciated."
