There is no formal form of MPhil progress assessment, but supervisors should ask MPhil students to write a short literature review and/or report soon after the start of their second term, in order to check on their progress.  Again, as with the second-year assessments of PhD students, it is essential that these procedures take as little time as possible for both student and staff involved.

Final examination of MPhil students.

MPhil students are asked to submit their dissertation after ten months to allow time for examination prior to the end of the year for those foreign students who have only one year’s funding.  The Degree Committee has expressed a willingness to consider short extensions to allow handing-in up to one year, but this should not be taken to be the regular position.
