If you have problems with students, such as difficulties in supervisory arrangements, prolonged absence, breakdown of the supervisory relationship, please take early action: avoid this problem becoming chronic, or escalating in any way. If you have difficulty in resolving this yourself, it is important to recognise this fact: remember that all students now have an adviser, who may play a part in problem solving (below); and that the Director of Graduate Studies is also available for consultation and mediation. Only if this should fail whould you or the student consider moving to a formal complaint. Please see DRS if you wish to do so.
