Vet School Community Celebrates 70th Anniversary
Last Friday, the Vet School community came together to mark a truly special occasion – 70 years since the opening of the Cambridge Vet School building, originally opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in October 1955.
Over 300 members of our community – including researchers, clinicians, professional services staff, academics, and some of our vet school students – joined in the celebrations. The event was a huge success, filled with food, music, laughter, and games, all enjoyed under unusually fair autumn weather.
Guests enjoyed a delicious hog roast, plenty of cake and sweets, lawn games, and music from our very own Vet School DJ – plus a vet school community-built photo frame. It was a wonderful opportunity to pause, connect, and celebrate everything that makes our Department such a special place to work and study.
A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who helped make the event possible – from the Anniversary Event Working Group who spent weeks planning, to all those who helped set up, tidy up, and support on the day. Your efforts truly made it an evening to remember.
The celebrations don't end here, we continue to celebrate ahead of 20 October – the date of the original opening of the Vet School building. We’ll be sharing a look back at the rich history of the Department, showing photos and history from across the decades. Keep an eye on our website and social media channels to follow along.
