February 11th marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a day to celebrate the achievements of women in science and inspire future generations to follow their passion for discovery.
At the Department of Veterinary Medicine, we are proud to work alongside many talented women who contribute to advancing veterinary science, research, and clinical practice. We asked some of the inspiring women in our department: “What do you love about working in science?”
Dr Kate Hughes (Veterinary Pathology):
"I love the puzzle-solving element of veterinary pathology. I find it fascinating to work to understand disease mechanisms at both a whole animal and microscopic level."
Professor Clare Bryant (Immunology):
"Science is really exciting. There’s the potential to discover something that could change people’s lives - so it’s about solving a mystery and generating a solution all in one."
From tackling complex diseases to driving innovation in veterinary medicine, women in our department are making a difference every day. Today, we celebrate their dedication and the vital role women play in shaping the future of science.
