How to get to the Cambridge Veterinary School by road

Please note that there is no exit for southbound traffic at Junction 13 of the M11. For the easiest routes of access, use the Instructions below.

Instructions

For those of you with a Satellite Navigation System, our postcode is: CB3 0(zero)ES

A barrier entry system is being introducted on site.
Please press the button marked Hospital and you will be asked for your name and the nature of your visit, after which the barrier will be released.

Select the direction from which you will be approaching Cambridge:

From the North East (A10)

  • Follow the A10 to the A14 intersection (junction 31) near Milton.
  • Join the A14 (westbound) and continue on this until you can join the M11 (southbound) at Junction 14.
  • Come off this road at Junction 12, then follow the signs to rejoin the M11 (northbound) for a short distance, exiting at Junction 13 and turning right at the top of the slip road.
  • Continue straight over the first set of traffic lights, signed to the Park & Ride , then:
  • For Small Animals, take the 2nd turn to the right into JJ Thomson Avenue at the sign Cavendish Laboratories, (approx.1 mile)
  • Take the 1st turning to the right and follow the on-site instructions to the Small Animal Hospital reception. There is dedicated Hospital client parking in the main car park.
  • For Horses and Farm Animals, take the 1st turning to the right into High Cross and continue until the T-junction, turn left and 1st right, following the signs to Equine and Farm Animal Hospital. Please report to Equine Reception before unloading your animal.

 

From the North West (A14)

  • Follow the A14 (eastbound) until it merges with the M11. Continue on the M11 southbound
  • Come off this road at Junction 12, then follow the signs to rejoin the M11 (northbound) for a short distance, exiting at Junction 13 and turning right at the top of the slip road
  • Continue straight over the first set of traffic lights, signed to the Park & Ride , then:
  • For Small Animals, take the 2nd turn to the right into JJ Thomson Avenue at the sign Cavendish Laboratories, (approx.1 mile)
  • Take the 1st turning to the right and follow the on-site instructions to the Small Animal Hospital reception. There is dedicated Hospital client parking in the main car park.

From the South (M11)

  • Follow the M11 to Junction 13
  • Leave the motorway at Junction 13 and turn right on to the A1303, signposted Cambridge
  • Continue straight over the first set of traffic lights, signed to the Park & Ride , then:
  • For Small Animals, take the 2nd turn to the right into JJ Thomson Avenue at the sign Cavendish Laboratories, (approx.1 mile)
  • Take the 1st turning to the right and follow the on-site instructions to the Small Animal Hospital reception. There is dedicated Hospital client parking in the main car park.
  • For Horses and Farm Animals, take the 1st turning to the right into High Cross and continue until the T-junction, turn left and 1st right, following the signs to Equine and Farm Animal Hospital. Please report to Equine Reception before unloading your animal.

 

From the East (A14)

  • Follow the A14 (eastbound) until you can join the M11 southbound. Do not come off the A14 too early on to the A11 (M11) or you will end up near Stansted Airport!
  • Come off the M11 southbound at Junction 12, then follow the signs to rejoin the M11 (northbound) for a short distance, exiting at Junction 13 and turning right at the top ofthe slip road
  • Continue straight over the first set of traffic lights, signed to the Park & Ride , then:
  • For Small Animals, take the second turn to the right into JJ Thomson Avenue at the sign Cavendish Laboratories, (approx.1 mile)
  • Take the 1st turning to the right and follow the on-site instructions to the Small Animal Hospital reception. There is dedicated Hospital client parking in the main car park.
  • For Horses and Farm Animals, take the 1st turning to the right into High Cross and continue until the T-junction, turn left and 1st right, following the signs to Equine and Farm Animal Hospital. Please report to Equine Reception before unloading your animal.

 

From the West (A428)

  • Follow the A428, signposted Cambridge, to the junction with the A1303 near Hardwick.
  • Turn on to the A1303, signposted Cambridge.
  • Go straight on at the M11 intersection.
  • Continue straight over the first set of traffic lights, signed to the Park & Ride , then:
  • For Small Animals, take the second turn to the right into JJ Thomson Avenue at the sign Cavendish Laboratories, (approx.1 mile)
  • Take the 1st turning to the right and follow the on-site instructions to the Small Animal Hospital reception. There is dedicated Hospital client parking in the main car park.
  • For Horses and Farm Animals, take the 1st turning to the right into High Cross and continue until the T-junction, turn left and 1st right, following the signs to Equine and Farm Animal Hospital. Please report to Equine Reception before unloading your animal.

 

When you arrive on site

If you are bringing a horse or farm animal there are different instructions

If you are a visitor to the Department, or a Hospital client with a dog, cat, etc, these are the instructions to follow:

  • After about three-quarters of a mile, turn right into J.J. Thomson Avenue (signed The Queen's Veterinary School Hospital and Department of Veterinary Medicine).
  • Following the signs, turn right then left.
  • Finally, follow the signs into the Car Park for both:
    • The Queen's Veterinary School Hospital Small Animal Reception (for dogs, cats, etc; there is dedicated client parking in front of the Hospital), and
    • Department of Veterinary Medicine Reception (if you are not a Hospital client).

 

When you arrive on site with a horse box

  • After first set of traffic lights take the next right, signposted High Cross and Equine & Farm Animal Hospital.
  • At the bottom of the drive, follow the signs and turn left.
  • Take another left turn to follow signs for Horse Box Parking.
  • Please report to Equine Reception before unloading your animal.
