Department of Veterinary Medicine

Cambridge Veterinary School

At the Department of Veterinary Medicine on Wednesday 18 September, we welcomed colleagues and members of the wider research community to the William Gates Building for our Autumn Research Afternoon. A celebration of the collaborative and innovative science flourishing across the Department.

The afternoon opened with a presentation from Joe Payne, Contracts Manager from the Research Operations Office, followed by a talk by Dr Adam Reid, Head of Bioinformatics at the Gurdon Institute, who shared insights on transforming “data into discovery.” Our keynote speaker, Prof Tueta Pilizota from the Department of Physics, then gave a fascinating talk on “Mathematical and physical approaches to understanding bacteria.”

From there, the pace picked up with a series of dynamic blitz talks, before attendees enjoyed refreshments and lively discussions around thirteen scientific posters on display. The event once again highlighted the depth and diversity of research being carried out at every career stage across the Department.

A special congratulations to Bailey Francis, the winner of the Best Poster Prize, and to Efrat Muller,  who was awarded the Best Blitz Talk Prize.  A special mention goes to Maurine Hammel who recently won the 'Life of the Lab Award' at the recent Postdoc Awards - read more here
