Well done to Maya Juman and Nicole Alimena for receiving their awards at April's Research Afternoon
This Wednesday 23rd April 2025, the Department of Veterinary Medicine hosted its Spring Research Afternoon in the inspiring setting of the William Gates Building, Cambridge. The event was a celebration of scientific excellence, highlighting the impact of research taking place across the department. Attendees enjoyed an engaging programme of nine five-minute “blitz” talks and fourteen scientific posters, all presented by passionate researchers at various stages of their careers showcasing the hard-work and innovation going on across our community.
Top honours on the day went to two standout contributions. The audience-voted winner of the “blitz talk” was “Non-Viral Delivery for CRISPR-based Therapeutics Against Osteoarthritis” by Nicole Alimena and the prize for best scientific poster was awarded to Maya Juman for her poster titled “Model-guided Henipavirus Discovery in Museum Bat Collections”
The event was a reminder of the innovative research being conducted across the department, from fundamental science to translational applications in animal and human health.
“We’re proud to see such diversity in topics and such high-quality work being shared,” said Professor Julian Parkhill - who presented the afternoon, “This event not only celebrates our achievements but helps build new connections and ideas for future research.”
The afternoon also included talks from invited speakers, Sebastian Jaehne and Dr Adria LeBoeuf and was followed by drinks and food in the stunning atrium allowing colleagues to network and celebrate. Thank you to Fiona Roby and Margarida Dias Rodrigues for organising the event and well done to all those who took part. We look forward to another Research Afternoon in the Autumn.
