Marina Papaiakovou, a PhD student at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, is showcasing her research in a major new exhibition at London’s Natural History Museum. The exhibit, which explores the environmental challenges facing our world and presents science-led solutions, features over 200 specimens and Marina’s work is one of just 30 key scientific stories selected to be part of the display.

Marina work is in the section on parasitic worms, drawing attention to their impact on human and animal health. Her exhibit includes preserved specimens from the three main groups of parasitic worms she has been studying, alongside a bottle of medication currently used both to treat infections and as a preventative chemotherapy. Visitors can also hear directly from Marina via a recorded audio piece, where she discusses her research and its real-world applications.

Marina said. I am very honoured and very excited to be part of this, as only about 30 main science stories were featured, and mine was one of them.

The new permanent exhibition is themed around energy, health, materials, and food, encouraging visitors to reflect on their relationship with nature and the role science plays in shaping a better world.
