Biography

I am a biologist with a keen interest for infectious pathogens and how to fight them with innovative effective vaccines. After a BSc in Molecular Biological Sciences and an MSc in Medical Biotechnologies, I obtained my PhD in Vaccine Design and Immune Responses, in the Marie Curie European Industrial Doctorate Programme. During this period, I worked between the University of Birmingham and Novartis/GSK Vaccine Institute for Global Health, investigating vaccines against Neisseria meningitidis based on outer membrane vesicles (OMV). While finishing the PhD, I broadened my research skills working in the Department of Structural Biology at the University of Oxford, gathering experience particularly in electron microscopy. I then worked as a postdoc at The Jenner Institute, University of Oxford, on transmission-blocking malaria vaccines, focusing on pre-clinical research, but also collaborating on clinical trials. Since October 2020 I am a PDRA at the University of Cambridge, in the group of Dr Pietro Mastroeni, working once more on vaccines against bacteria.
