Veterinary Public Health/One Health, Food Security & Safety, Animal Health and Welfare

Risk analysis (assessment/management/communication) and practical application of VPH/One Health. This includes food security (safety)  and links to animal health and welfare as well as VPH/One Health teaching. 

Biography

Currently: Associate Teaching Professor of Veterinary Public Health (VPH) Cambridge Veterinary School.

NB till 2022 had a title Teaching Fellow in VPH.   Responsible for reviewing and redesign of VPH course ( 1-6 YR), including Farm Animal Course (poultry).  Coordinator between Government Veterinary Services (GVS)  and all UK Veterinary Schools on VPH teaching. Contribute to the wide range of others’ research activities; design, surveillance and research pathway impact on stakeholders within overarching pillars of One Health (animals, people and environment they share).

Graduated from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, in 1989 and obtained full membership with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons by examination. Holder of the Certificate in Veterinary Public Health (Meat Hygiene) and gained status of Advanced Practitioner In Veterinary Public Health. Trained as EU FVO national expert in auditing. Work experience varies from small to large animal practice and in the UK most of career was in the sector of Veterinary Public Health; from practical on-line meat hygiene inspection to performing Official Veterinarian’s duties. For 12 years worked as Veterinary Adviser for the Food Standards Agency providing veterinary advice to policy makers and liaison with other government departments and academic institutions, nationally and internationally. Acted as a veterinary witness in several high profile court appearances. Conducted FVO audits in EU and South America. Representing UK as National Focal Point for Animal Production Food Safety with OIE, until 2014. On behalf of the UK Government and EU institutions given many presentations on public health and links to animal health and welfare.
